FourPoint Mapping were approached by local sustainability campaign group Transition Tavistock to create a town-wide walking-specific map for them. An A3 leaflet was recommended as the perfect format, meaning that at a scale of 1:9,500 every street can be named. Using the client's extensive local knowledge a great amount of detail was added and, keen to advocate the use of the traffic-free paths around the town, they wanted the map to enable users to clearly see which paths are surfaced, unsurfaced, are steep, or have steps.

A grid of numbered and lettered squares was included for referencing the street index, and which also allows prominent numbered sites to be quickly located. The street index itself features on the reverse of the leaflet, along with lots of useful information about getting around the town on foot.

The map also exists in a scrollable, zoomable PDF format on the client's website, and the street index can be downloaded in a large-print format.

"We found FourPoint Mapping very helpful in enabling a community group with no experience of map design to produce a pocket-size map showing the whole town, highlighting traffic-free paths and community facilities. We covered the very reasonable cost through grants, based on the health and environmental benefits of walking. The map has proved so popular that a second edition is planned for 2025."
