As part of this Heritage Lottery Funded project – A Forgotten Landscape (AFL) – FourPoint Mapping was commissioned to provide a complete design solution. Cartography included 15 large-scale walking maps and an overview map. We also designed the leaflets, the packaging, a 396mm x 210mm poster, plus site-specific A1 posters for use at railway stations in the area, and oversaw production.
Having won the tender, we met with the client to discuss their needs and objectives and also made site-visits. Using OS Master Map under licence and the client's own Public Rights of Way network data and GPX trails, we created a series of detailed, user-friendly maps, using a softened colour palette to align with AFL's own branding. The five shorter 'easy access' walks, and 10 longer 'regular' walks were signed on the ground using green and blue marker arrows respectively, and this colour scheme was carried through to the leaflets.
The 15 walking leaflets were designed to follow the same template, while the overview poster showed the locations of all the walks. All 16 items folded to DL-size and were housed in a die-cut, folding wallet which was held shut by means of Velcro.
